7 Ways To Better Survive The Holiday Season at Work

Holidays At Work
Going to work during the holiday season can be really tough! While most of us would love to just stay home and spend time with our families, the bills have to get paid. That being said, the holiday season can actually be quite enjoyable at work. You just have to have a little fun! In today's post we'll highlight 7 great ways to make the holiday season more bearable around the office.

1.) Throw A Potluck

It's no secret that food is aplenty around the holiday season. Hosting a Friday potluck at the office is a good way to blow off some steam and focus on some team morale. Some good food and bonding with your work mates will no doubt make the holiday season more enjoyable around the workplace.

2.) Decorate

Decorating around the office can be really fun! Get your team involved and come up with some festive ways to show your holiday spirit. Wreaths, Christmas lights, and even a Christmas tree will liven up your workplace and make the office feel a bit more like home.

3.) White Elephant

Hosting a white elephant Christmas party is another great way to help you and your team make it through the holiday season. Per our friends at Wikipedia the rules are as follows, each participant supplies one wrapped gift. The gifts are placed in a central location, and participants determine in what order they will take turns selecting them. The first person opens a wrapped gift and the turn ends. On subsequent turns, each person can open a new present or gets the choice to "steal" another person's unwrapped gift. When a person's gift is stolen, that person chooses another wrapped gift to open. The game is over when the last person has taken their turn.

4.) Pranks

A harmless pranks never hurt anybody! Consider fun ideas like covering up your coworker friends desks and computer chairs in wrapping paper. You can also try the special delivery prank. This involves having a friend wrapping a large box with you inside. You tell another unsuspecting coworker that a present has arrived for them. They go to open the box, and you pop out yelling surprise. Talk about a great way to get through the day!

5.) Get Outside

Don't spend your entire day at your desk all cooped up. If it's a nice day outside, consider taking a walk or having lunch outside. Encourage your team members to join and take in a bit of fresh air. A simple 10 minute walk outside each day will help to get your mind off work, and also provides some good exercise for those off us who need to work off a few slices of holiday pie!

6.) Casual Day

During the holiday season, most of us want to sit around in sweat pants watching our favorite Christmas movies. This makes going to work in a suit and tie can be a real drag to say the least. Suggest casual days to your team as they will make everyone more comfortable and relaxed.

7.) Competition

A little healthy competition will keep you inspired while working throughout the holiday season. Talk with your boss about a sales competition involving a bonus or some sort of prize. The better the gift, the more motivated your team will be to participate. We suggest using office related gifts that will also improve productivity. Prizes like a new ergonomic chair for the top sales person will definitely get the group moving!
