7 Tips For The Ergo Minded Worker

Ergonomic Tips
The right ergonomic tips will help you make it through your work day in comfort! That being said, we've got 7 that are sure to do just that. In today's post we'll help you become posture perfect and operate at peak performance levels. Enjoy!

1.) Keep Back In Contact With Chair When Working

Do you find yourself leaning forward and away from your chair to type? This bad habit can cause back pain and poor blood flow over the long term. When working at your desk, try to adjust the angle of your ergonomic office chair to ensure your in contact with the seating surfaces at all time. Doing this will help maximize the ergonomic benefits of your chair.

2.) Keep Feet Flat On Ground When Working

Using the base of your office chair as a foot rest is never a good idea. It's important to keep your feet facing forward and flat on the ground when working if you want to be ergonomically correct! Avoid extending your legs and crossing your feet. Instead, adjust the height of your chair to ensure you are able to work comfortably and correctly! An ergonomic foot rest will come in handy if you're struggling with proper feet placement.

3.) Strive To Reduce Eye Strain

While it may sound minimal, eye strain can really hinder productivity. First things first, raise the height of your monitor to ensure it's at eye level. Don't look down at your computer screen for long periods of time as it's very strenuous on the neck and eyes. Once you're computer screen is at eye level, consider moving it closer or further away to meet your specific needs. If you want to kick things up a notch, an ergonomic monitor arm is a great way to go. They increase usable desk space, reduce eye strain, and provide a wide range of adjustment features designed to improve versatility in the workplace.

4.) Promote Continuous Movement

Sitting for long periods of time is never a good idea. Muscles become stiff, fatigue begins to set in, and productivity levels drop. For these reasons, promoting continuous movement in the workplace is a great idea. If you've got some extra funds, consider integrating a height adjustable ergonomic desk into your space. These high tech ergonomic tools will help you solve a lot of major issues with a quickness! If you don't want to splurge on a new desk, consider standing up to stretch at least once every hour.

5.) Take Short Breaks

Taking short breaks throughout the work day is a must. About once every hour, take the time to get up, stretch, and walk around. Don't get too enthralled with a project that you end up sitting for 3 and 4 hours at a time. Studies have shown that doing this can actually shorten your life span. If you want to take things a step further, consider a simple deskercise routine. There are lots of easy and awesome exercises you can do right from your desk to be more effective and healthy.

6.) Create A Posture Chart

Have trouble remembering all the posture tips and tricks you're supposed to be using? You're not alone! Creating a posture chart can be a huge help. To keep things simple, consider printing one out from the web. Studies have shown that workers who place posture reminder and ergonomic tip charts within eye sight of their workstation report major improvements in comfort and productivity.

7.) Spread The Word

If you're becoming an ergonomic master, it's your duty to spread the word. All too often our workplace friends suffer from the same performance hindering obstacles as us. Once you've tackled eye strain and found awesome ways to fight fatigue, don't keep them to yourselves. Share what's worked for you with your team. They'll be incredibly grateful!
